I am looking for a better way to connect my exhaust. This says weld on but would it work if I hose clamped it or no? I think no but other opinions would be awesome!

Ehh, looks like it could be hose clamped, do you not have a friend with a buzz buzz machine?
If you lived closer I'd say bring it over and we'll buzz it on!-Christian

I want a flex pipe because there is a bit of space between the pipes and I also am not sure if a 2.25" pipe will slip around both ends or have to go in between them. Since I know this is designed to fit around them it should work great for my application but if I'm wrong let me know!

I personally can't stand exhaust clamps. They rarely ever seal properly and are just not a "professional" way of doing things. Post up a picture of what you are working with. It sounds like a small piece of tube and a bit of welding is all you need. To have an exhaust shop fix it properly should be under $100.

That flex pipe has tips that are too short to clamp, it'll need to be welded.
This one is clamp on, and comes with clamps, just find your size.
Free Shipping - Summit Racing™ Flex Joint Pipes with qualifying orders of $109. Shop Exhaust Flex Pipes at Summit Racing.
A lot of people clamp with these and they just require two ends of whatever size to butt together.
Free Shipping - Summit Racing™ Band Clamps with qualifying orders of $109. Shop Exhaust Clamps at Summit Racing.
Others clamp with these, and the exhaust has a split down the side to squish closed.
Free Shipping - Summit Racing™ Muffler Clamps with qualifying orders of $109. Shop Exhaust Clamps at Summit Racing.
See the splits? A clamp won't be %100, but it'll get you home.
If your exhaust system is a shit mess then I would only run these temporarily if you have to get it to pass inspection then get new exhaust welded up asap.
I'd love to see pics of your exhaust.

Thanks for the help and especially those links! I just went out and snapped a couple pics because I may not have a chance to get on for a couple days. This is the problem area, the rubber tube is not strong enough to keep them together. The back part of the exhaust just barely wants to be down maybe 5mm from the front pipe that's right after the headers. This small force has been rubbing and making the rubber tube get all ripped up and it's basically useless. There is a clean cut under the rubber hose, and I'm thinking that if I can at least keep that cut together a big part of my problem will be solved.
Besides that part I think the OEM exhaust hangers are gone and it's been held sketchily by the PO's strap and I temporarily used some metal coat hangers and a zip tie chain to hold the back half of it up, so at least if the clamp slides off the exhaust won't go anywhere. I got a box of hose clamps at harbor freight because most of the radiator hose's clamps are bad, and there are some really big ones in the box. Would an extensive array of hose clamps work if I made it really secure and had the cut squared away?
I've been making tons of progress everywhere else on the car besides the exhaust and the shop I brought it to said that this exhaust essentially "cant be reused" if they were to make hangers for it, and they said a new system plus welding hangers on would be upwards of $700. They called some guy for an OEM muffler and just that was like $280 or something. I asked if I could get my own system and bring it to them, and they said they wouldn't do that and most other shops wouldn't either. I really want to do it legit but according to them it's not possible with my current pipes, which I think is kinda crazy. I had a sense of "This young kid has no idea what he's doing and we can make money off of him" sense at the shop, but they could be 100% right it just seems kind of fishy. It hasn't rusted through anywhere and it sounds great. When the rust kills it I will gladly spend some money for a brand new system but this seems fine to me, I just have the cut to solve and the hanging to solve so I can get it inspected and then bring it to other exhaust/ welding shops to see if they are willing to work with it.
TL DR My exhaust has a cut in it and no real hangers.BMW tech

Oh man, that's rough!! And I thought mine was a shit mess. You gotta get that taken care of, or at least about 10 more layers of jankyness so there's no way you'll leave that system on the freeway for someone to hit.
$700 seems pretty steep unless it's full custom. A couple off the shelf parts welded up would be at least a few hundred less. But hey, I'm not looking up at your car on a lift so it could be worse than that.Last edited by Navarone; 03-19-2015, 11:42 PM.
