Heat Shield Delete

I'm doing a subframe job and the exhaust heat shields I've encountered thus far are rusted beyond usability. Has anyone run their car without the heat shields? I was thinking about maybe using exhaust wrap where the heat shields were.

We remove them int he race cars, but might get a little toasty in traffic.

Because of this, I have a pile of minty heat shields (Florida cars) if you are interested in replacing it.
