Yes, an aftermarket cat will be less restrictive and cheaper but it will also be louder than stock...and noticeably so. I went through 3 replacement units before I went back to stock. If you are particular about noise like I am you will want to stick with the OE cat.

Of course, $1400.00 is an insane amount of money. So, your options are to try to get one fron a junker (most often illegaly, like I did) or find a place that sells OE remanufactured ones.

I purchased a remanufactured unit for another car I owned and it looked like I had bought it from the dealer. I came across this company after searching on google:

1400 is LIST price. You can normally get it from a BMW specific shop for about 900-1000.

Aftermarket. My 335i has dual Catco cats and I don't think they are more than $100 each... Add in some custom work and supplies to get them installed and you come out less than a replacement cat.

What size is the inlet/oulet diameter. I am looking to order an aftermarket magnaflow cat right now. I am currently running no cat and my moms is on my ass to "save the environment one cat at a time." Damn inconvienient truth

Will that work well enough to pass an emissions test? I don't want to spend $400+ on a stupid cat just to pass the retarded emissions test, that's almost more then I paid for the car....but $68 sounds much more reasonable.

Thanks but I need one for a 325i which from what I remember has dual inlet/outlet. I found one at summit with dual 2 inch inlet/outlets but I am not sure what the stock size is for our exhaust. Thanks again
