    ebay exhaust-bad idea?

i ust need a cheap echaust on my car other then stock. I cant stand the stock soound(or lack therof) and i was looking at ebay since i know they are all really cheap. Is this a terrble idea? will they mostly all sound ricey? my other options are thrush, flowmaster, or dynomax. The two latter are more expensive and neither of the trheee i listed haev welded tops or look decent for that matter.

Really the onl reason i am considering an ebay ezhaust with dtm style tips is fo looks since i have an 87 with diving oboards and no rear apron.

    input is greatly appreciated...

if you are going strictly on sound then here is what a gutted cat, 2.5in pipe, and a 2ft thrush glasspack sounds

I dont think its a bad idea. I mean, when you buy an expensive quality exhaust, you pay a lot for the welds and fitment etc.. However i think metal is metal and if the welds break you can alwyas have them seamed back up.
Ebay headers are good. While you got a good price, might as well send them to a machine shop to port it out and reinforce the welds. Then you got an awesome header set imo. hope that helps..

i had dual thrush glasspacks on my ix and it sounded ok....terrible drone around 60 mph but it sounded good at WOT. I just put a magnaflow on there though and absolutely wonderful difference.

I had a set of 18" summit glass packs on my 85e with two stainless tips coming out at an angle when i still had diving board bumpers on it. I'm still wanting to know what a Hooker muffler sounds like on these cars? And have you looked elsewhere like Summit or Jegs?

              i like that car.

I have a thrush glasspack on my 89 v6 camaro, and it drones like CRAZY. that also might be becasue i ahve no cat and the exhaust exits under the car....

so, if you all dont think it will sound too ricey, i will either do the glasspacks, or teh ebay muffler. Im just trying to keep the dron to a minimum since iv been dealing with drone for soo long now(my gf hates it cuz its hard to talk to me in my camaro, lol)

When i first got that car i put a glasspack on it. with the cat it did not drone very much. Then i gutted the cat, it had more drone of coarse . Then i changed the whole exhaust, long tube headers no cats and a set of glass packs. It got crazy loud then . But i'm still wondering about the Hooker super comp. muffler. I got one on my 96 Firebird Formula with long tube headers ORY pipe and a hooker cat back. There is little drone to it on the hi-way and has a good sound to it at 2500+rpm's.

yeah, idk. whenever you do searches for sound clips of mufflers that are typically used on v8s, well, thats what you get, so its hard to judge on the sound...

There are a few on youtube that has glasspacks, but they all have gutted cats. And there is a sound clip of the ebay muffler somewhere cause i remember hearing it (i think it maybe on this site??). Youtube and streetfire.net has been the best palces that i've found for trying to find sound clips of 6cyl cars.

out of curiosity, how did you get two glasspacks on an e? the e models only have single pipeing all the way fromt he y pipe, so did you do cutom piping too?

i have an ie exhaust which i belive is the same as the ebay exhaust. Sounds good at and no drone. I blew out a cat (it was hollow like they forgot to weld on the core) and it made it sound raspy but no drone.
