I'm actually happy. I reasonably certain whats wrong now! I think the more aggressive spark map is what did in the coil.

too much dwell.. an aggressive spark map can't fry a coil, but lots of dwell can.

dwell was actually lowered to 2.3 when it fried. I think the spark on that cylinder was always weak anyway. The coil was going from the start.

So:
100% rewire ignition system
New coil boots
Used but known good coils
