What's the Deal with MAF or AFM location...?

OK so I've read alot, search all the bimmer sites i could get me grubby
little hands on, every little car forum I've come across that has a boost section, every mag, and every fucking picture I've come across
Shows the maf or the afm behind the turbo..

Whats the deal where "should" it go?
OEM setups are in front... also the miller setups require a "before" turbo setup...

But every aftermarket setup and every moder i've seen has them behind the turbo....

    So whats better...

    Whats the diff.....?

    Depends on the tuning.

Suck through or blow through is the terms you are looking for.

Generally, most I have seen are blow through.

        Draw through Luke.

Suck through is what you pay for behind the K-Mart on the corner.

It all depends on the tuning.

Generally, MAFs that are happy in draw through are not happy being blown through... they tend to leak and sometimes get gummed up.

We had to switch to a whole new style of MAF to use it in a blow-through configuration.

I've always figured you would want to draw through. Most turbos pass even a minute amount of oil which will quickly damage a MAF.

Oil and dust and shit build up on the MAF. It takes a special design for blow-through applications.

The website is down right now, we're working with ATT to get it back online soon.

If I had pictures of my blow through AFM's insides handy from when I had it off last... you'd see why MAF's are happier in a draw through setup. Draw through AFM setups seem pointless to me though and I was always happy with mine where it is and how it functions as a blown through setup. To each their own though.
