    m10 management?

hi i was pondering the idea of putting a turbo on my 84 318i and was wondering what system if any do i need with it like wideband or mega squirt. Trying to keep it on the cheap side but probable will get expensive.

    thanks

If you don't want to buy the manifold and injectors, just go onto diypnp.com and get all the ms gear you need however chances are you'll end up paying $700ish with the lc1, imo get the whole kit for an extra $100

a wideband is an O2 sensor, but it tells you how rich/lean it is. most O2 sensors(narrowband) will only tell you rich/lean, but not by how much. when tuning a car, especially for turbo, you want to run rich, but if you only know you're "rich" with a narrowband, you don't know by how much, and potentially "not rich enough" to prevent damage to your motor.

MS is one way to go. If you wanted to get serious with L-Jet you could do something similar to SAFC by modifying the AFM's input to the ECU, but then you also don't have control over spark, and to adequately fix that you need megajolt or megasquirt, or possibly a race/modified distributor. That or you're gonna need to find a way to tap into the vac advance system and tune your own spark table. (spark is where the power is)

You could run a bigger MAF and bigger injectors, then fine tune fuel according to your wideband... But in order to make any real power and have your setup be reliable, you need to update the management. It sounds like you're a bit over your head if you don't know what a wideband is, to be honest.

Hope this helps. Someone on my local forum converted his 323i from l-jet to megasquirt. Should be very similar to what's needed for the m10. He went with the ms1 board, you could go for a newer ms2 or ms3 and control spark aswell. Ditch the dizzy and run a trigger wheel on the crank shaft pulley and a edis4 coil pack.
