    wanting to boost my e30

so i am looking to boost my e30, i have a super eta motor and from what i have been told the block is bullet proof. what all do i need to do to the motor and what turbo kit or setup will give me about 400-500bhp to the crank. I am looking to piece it together myself. I will accept all opinions and ideas. The motor i have has 120k on it. I appreciate all your help, thanks.

400-500 to the crank is a large figure on an m20. And I doubt you can get it done with the restricted seta motor. You'll have to do the "stroker" conversion.
Your gonna need a decent standalone to reach those figures. The tune is what's gonna get you there. Even an Miller Maf and W.A.R chip which I'm using isn't gonna get you there.
If your motor is in good condition then you could probably get away with an o-ring and arp head studs.
There is a lot of reading to be done on this. Just don't be tempted into buying cheap ebay parts except for the intercooler. Just do it right

ok thanks, that is why i posted on here so i know what to do because i would rather get the right stuff instead of buying something because it is cheap and i want to get the car done. i would really like to get 400 at the crank. 500 would be nice.

        megasquirt>miller war chip

keep in mind, the drivetrain components and how much power they can handle. the car weight like 2500lbs. so anything more than 300whp is insane.
shit 230whp will make you happy as hell.
and for the numbers you want you will spend over 4k. you would have to reinforce the motor, higher quality parts, tuneing(oh god that will be costly).
then think about your suspension, and the squat you will get from adding TONS of power. oh so now you can go SUPER fast, how the hell are you going to stop in time with those stock brakes? oh hey more money. oh another thing, how are you going to trasnfer all that torque to the asphalt? stock basket weaves? god i hope not! you will need some serious tires to hook up!

i say run 8psi, get about 250whp, stock motor and internals, invest rest in suspension/brakes/tires(you will need many tires from all the burnouts), and anything else you can think of.

trust you will be more than happy.

250whp in an e30 is very fun.
Drivetrain wise a heavy duty clutch, an lower ratio diff and LSD will be enough for 350+whp. I still think you can get that on stock bottom end. BeefJerky is pulling over 400 crank HP. On stock bottom end.
Check out e30tech that's the place for turbos and there are a couple good writeups on it.

If you are this inexperienced with motors to the point of asking "what do I need to do to get XXX amount of power?", then you probably shouldn’t do it. There is A LOT more to boosting a motor than just slapping on a turbo and going on your merry way. As stated before, have you driven an e30, or an equivalent size and weight car with 400whp? Are you doing suspension and more importantly BRAKE upgrades? And you better be putting a cage and a 5-point harness in the car, going fast isn’t worth losing your life. Anyways view the link below if you really are going to do this.

I actually haven’t looked at that thread in a while, take heed to this quote.

"I began collecting turbo parts way earlier than I should have. I bought Corky Bell's book, and read it, but it didn't really sink in until I was actually in the process of building the car. I urge you not to jump the gun, like I did. Do more research than you think is necessary. Until you can conceptually visualize how each component functions, what it's purpose is, and how your choice affects the entire system, you are not ready to start buying."

Like most people, you probably are thinking you’re going to turbo your motor, but in reality you are going to get in WAY over your head. Don’t be a fool, be honest with your self, and make the right decision.

that is why i asked first, i have driven a eg coupe that had 300hp at the crank. i plan on doing a cage, uprading the brakes and doing everything that is need to make sure i am safe.

if i can get 250-300whp i would love it.

The power to weight would still kick ass w/ that. Good luck.

Bov, modified oil pan, oil cooler, piping, turbo, intercooler, down pipe and all that good stuff... Thinking of a vw turbo, or one from an Evo or something like that.

A Mitsubishi Evo 16g would do the trick, also garret t28 would be good. You can nick one of a Silvia240sx whatever you Americans call it.
And good'n'tight makes very good manifolds he should be able to do an m42 manifold since he usually sells m50 manifolds, he could take off a couple cylinders on cylinder 5 and 6 and it should work the same. You might wanna get an MLS and arp head studs as well

Early Volvo turbo. From what i recall the compressor map was similar to a t28 but has a t3 flange
