Boost noob, Help me decide what would be best

    Sup guys,

I bought an m50 a while ago and I'm getting closer to dropping it in so I wanna start getting it ready for boost.

So far the engine has ARP head bolts and an.12 MLS headgasket. The PO was running 14 lbs before with a gt35r. I was planning to go s/c but what do you guys think would be better and more cost effective. (I already have a full exhaust which makes me wanna go more towards s/c)

And is there anything else that I should do while the engine is out of the car?

Why does having a full exhaust push you towards going s/c?

Personally I'd go turbo! M50 turbo = capable of lots of power :p

        this^

So he doesn't need to put money into a new downpipe and re-fabbing the current exhaust.

If that's whats holding you back though its a poor excuse. Just my opinion.

Because then I wouldn't have to mess with turbo manifold and custom exhaust.

Which one is generally cheaper? Turbo or s/c?

Not really holding me back, I can easily sell it. Just looking for the most cost effective and simple boost cause I've never done it before.

Simple? Nothing is simple when it comes to FI! :p

I'd route the downpipe into the full exhaust that you already have (depending on what it is and how it's built..)

But yeah, I'd say turbo. Choose two: cheap, fast, reliable. You can spend a few months gathering parts and it will help save you some money. Scour the classifieds on different forums looking for parts. You can find some good deals if you take your time!

I'm in the process of turboing my m20. I've been collecting parts for the past few months and I only have a few things left now!

Alright just ordered maximum boost by corky bell haha. Gonna read it while getting parts together. Turbo might work out better too since I can buy it piece by piece like you said

also should i try to bar my m50 then turbo it? or does it not matter since turbo would make it smog illegal anyways?

The turbo will make it smog illegal so having it BAR'd wouldn't do anything unless you took the turbo off to smog.
