O-ring wont stay in the groove

The copper wire that came with the tool is not staying in the grooves. We've tried tapping it lightly with a rubber hammer but it wont stay in. And recommendations on what i can do to get it to stay in the block?

Your groove is too wide or too shallow, or your wire is too small. Did you check the tool to see if the business end is bunged up, making your groove wider than spec?
