Single or Double VANOS for turbo?

I'm in the process of building up a m52 for my e30 with intentions of turbo down the track. And to save me from future headaches I need some Vanos advice. I have both a e36 single Vanos head and a e39 double Vanos heads available. I am wondering which one I should choose.

What are some pros and cons for each? And which one would you choose an why?

And also should I bother flashing and tune the stock ecu or should I just go standalone from the start?

I guess it would depend on the capabilities of your (aftermarket?) ECU you intend to run. Also how much dyno time development you want to put into tuning the vanos.

I run single M50B28 vanos with a turbo, it def makes a difference and the setup is simple.

I have both Ecu's to match but they haven't yet been flashed to get rid of EWS. So I was thinking the standalone should be an option from the start?

And to tbh I have no real knowledge of ECU's how to tune and no real interest in learning atm. I want to have it professionally tuned to save me the trouble. Unless this is not an actually possibility and I will have to do it myself?

So are you saying tuning a single Vanos on the stock ecu is fairly straight forward?

Ah I'm using an SM4 ECU to run mine. Stock ECU with a flash should be fine - a tried and true path. No idea who can tune it in Bris tho.

Can't say anything about the dual vanos stuff, but there's lots of support out there for the M52/S52 Siemens MS41 ECU. Romraider, and <$100 worth of cables and flash program make it easy to delete EWS and emissions crap, and tune if you want. Otherwise there are a bunch of people who do turbo tunes for the stock ECU.

Single vanos is on/off, just wire it up for the standalone to turn on/off based on RPM. Probably best to mimic stock vanos activation as close as you can to start.

Plus with the single vanos heads, you can run S5x cams or any of like a dozen aftermarket cams. I don't think selection is as good or as cheap for the M52tu

Thanks mate. So there aren't any real benefits of having a dual Vanos system? All the aftermarket support the single Vanos seems to outweigh the other. Yeah I was planning on also upgrading the cams to a s52 set.
