    Turbo size Q

    Hey all,

I've been talking to a few people about getting hp out of an e30 and im convinced turbo m20 is the way to have a fun high revving 250ish whp daily driver. The only problem is i dont know much about turbos!

That said, i have a few questions. Im looking to make around 250hp and have little lag and pull pretty much till redline. I want it to be affordable so im thinking t3/t4. What size turbo should i be looking at? I read the thread in general turbo section about size but most used turbos (affordable) arent measured by compressor wheel inducer.

I found a t3/t4 with 3" inlet, 2"outlet, .50 a/r comp., .63 a/r tur. Should that fufill my expectations (say without regard to intercooler size, mani style, etc)?

I'm all ears so any input is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks alot
    -Chris

hope you bought that. that sounds rockin.

If you didn't, I would reccommend something maybe even as small as a Garrett T28. They're generally capable of anywhere from 250-450 hp, and intended for 1.8l-3.0l engines. Affordable (~$1000) and low lag.

          I'm jealous of turbo E30s!

a T28 would be fairly small for a 2.5l. Quick spool, but would run out of breath at higher RPMs

perfect for 250 would be either a mitsu td04hl-15g, or a skyline bb t28, either can be had in good shape for less than 300$ and spool like hell

                      You didn't mention a trim?!

Seems like lots of people are against these e-bay turbos. I personally know someone with one making well over 400RWHP with one and has over 30k miles on his daily driver. It's on a 3rd gen camaro 3.1 running 12.0x. The problem wasn't the product, rather the advertising. He thought he was buying a to4e clone with A/R .50 tur .63 and 57 trim, when in reality got a 46 trim and put it in anyways. Aparently the SSAC turbos used to be glued together on the compressor side and would eventually fail, although the newer ones are a solid piece of cast AL. Being under $200 I bought one to check it out and am considering throwing it on my Firebird to check it out.

I have an ebay turbo. I traded it for a 2002 crank and rods:)
It looks to br constructed well - im going to try it on my 2002.

Well, turns out my H1c was a peice of junk. The turbine housing had a chunk of aluminum wedged in there and the turbine fan was pretty f***ed up. Its nuts, the thing looked fine from the outside and it spun fine too. I got my $ back so its not that huge of a deal.

So now im looking for a t3/t4 or a t04e. 50 or 54 trim compressor hopefully about 60ar hot side. (hit me up if you have anything for sale!)
