You will see significant gains in performance if done right, and it's fun to build if you have fabrication skills. I built my turbo system for my Firebird from scratch, cost me less than $1500. Went from doing low 17' to high 13's in the 1/4.

I cant remember his name but, a guy on BFC made 217whp and 306 lb ft with 8psi on a stock eta and an Hx40. come on over to E30tech.com for more info about getting some more air into your eta

I have an ebay turbo, just don't get one with a blue or black tag, they have inferior bearings. If you want I can dig up a pic of mine, I'v had this one and Garrett's apart and it is an exact copy. The tough part is the people selling them on ebay don't know how to measure a compressor wheel and tell you the trim (they all say .57 which is very efficient campard to the .46 you will likely get).

You will need fab skills to install even a kit...

This is link to my album from the Firebird, some ar pics of practice welds, etc. The wife doesn't want a turbo on her e30 lol....

                Project : Turbo Firebird

The principals are the same for all cars, get some reading material to understand turbine theory.

I boosted my eta, I have a thread in the members ride section about it. I spent much less than the average person, it is 100% worth it. I built my own kit.

Nice collection of BMW's you got there, mooseoftoose :P.

What turbo did you use? I used a to4e (xs-power brand from ebay) and the entire system cost me less than $1500, includint the pipes and connectors, etc...

Also what kind of gain did yoou see? I am curious because the gains I saw on the Firebird makes me want to boost all five of my vehicles (unless someone buys my Navigator that's for sale first, jk). The V10 would probaly eat up some boost seeing it already has sick torque #'s and +300HP

Well, I cant take any credit for the two e46s, I was at a meet, mines in the middle. I havent dynod yet so I am lost as far as numbers. Im running 9psi and its wonderful. Not long ago I popped a coupler off the piping so the engine wasnt getting boost. MAN was it slow. Popped the coupler back on and it was nuts. I had forgotten the difference the turbo makes over stock.

If you have a welder, amke about four tacks, 1/2" log, around the end of the pipe and the slippage issue of the couplers will all but go away ;).
