Whats a good Forced Induction book

What is a reputable forced induction book that was found to be very helpful??

Ive heard of i think its called "Maximum boost" but idk if that book is outdated now or if there is a better one to get??

    Thanks, Nick

That one's pretty good, by Corky Bell. I have it but can never seem to finish it though. Not cause of lack of info or anything. lol...just never have finished it.

yea, maximum boost is a good book, take yer time and learn the stuff about compressor maps it'll help a lot if you actually plan on sizing yer own turbo. it a little old so some things have changed but the majority of technology will always be the same. he even talked about variable goemetry turbines if I remember.

another good book im reading now is called "how to build and modify engine management systems" not directly related to turbos themselves, but a ton of useful information of the support systems you WILL need, and a lot about engine theory that I though was really great. plus it really breaks it down so you know what yer getting into, its not as simple as slapping a turbo on :) good read though I think you'll like it.

Also understand that Maximum Boost is outdated. It's great to learn the basics because Bell almost makes the whole physics of it easy to understand (and that's quite the accomplishment).

But he has not included many of the changes and new technologies in turbos such as ball bearings, etc.

yeah i would like to get a book on the motronic fuel injection system too or somethin like that

ive been doing alot of reading on these forums for awhile, theres ALOT of great info but sometimes its hard to find the reliable information that is hiddin in these forums(plus everyone has their opinions), so i wouldnt mind just reading through a book that is prolly 99% correct and is easy to read and understand.

Plus im kind of getting sick looking at this god damn screen every night...hah

yes, aswell Alexander Bell :truning forced induction vehicles" or something along these lines is pretty comprehensive, but A. Corky is laid out veyr well and very easy to read.
Aswell I'm trying to "read how to build and modify engine management systems", it's not exacly turbo related, it's like basics of standalone ECU's and how they work and stuff, but all tho the book is big with lotsa pictures, it's not relly indepth. they have like project cars and they have pic of ve map and they just briefly discuss setup and such. I bought this book primarly to lean about tuning transisten reposne and stuff, and there's only about a 3/4 of a colume about that in the book... just like , "oh yes, there is this phenomena and ecu has to compensate for it", but not really explanation of why and how and how to compensate based on what, etc...

Maximum Boost is VERY outdated, and a lot of the stuff is wrong. Still a good starting place. Just take it all with a grain of salt.

I got this. I havent hread it yet, but i browsed through it and it appears to be more comprehensive and in-detail than maximum boost. it's quite recent too.

matt, I don't know what information in Maximum Boost you're calling "wrong". The only thing that comes to mind is how Bell uses diagrams, graphs, and charts without scale to try and illustrate concepts, without bothering to put much precision into them.

Some of the book is outdated, but even reading it and taking into account when it was written, I think that the accuracy of Bell's predictions in several areas was pretty decent. That's a book written before the advent of electronic boost control devices and affordable standalone engine management systems, and in some respects, commonplace ball-bearing turbos. Even the far-fetched idea of the VATN has solidified on a few (and growing number of) production vehicles.

There is a lot of newer applicable forced-induction information in the book "Supercharged", also by Corky Bell, and another one of my favorite books is "How to Tune and Modify Engine Management Systems" by Jeff Hartman. That book is great for breaking down what occurs in an engine, which is the most important foundation to build on if you want to go about tuning a car. It covered over half of the curriculum that I was exposed to in EFI 101.

There isnt anything "wrong" in this book. It is old yes, but not incorrect. Corky Bell has worked closely with metric mechanic actually, I spoke to the owner (forgot his name off top of my head) of MM and Corky was sitting there and kept chiming in from time to time when I was doing my first build. Maximum Boost is a good read to understand the concept of turbo charging

maximum boost maybe an older book but its a GREAt learning tool...i learned about forced induction with that book...the info isnt wrong, just a little outdated but the basic, fundamental info is there and well explained.
