engine bogging down when i let go of the throttle at high revs

    i have a 1985 318i

whenever I let go of the throttle at high RPMs and try gunning it again immediately it will bog down for a second or two. It has a 5 speed so i know its not the tranny trying to shift itself, though it does feel very similar to that.

It happens in almost all RPM ranges and all 5 gears.

I also have problems when I start it up cold. the engine will rev around 400rpm and end up shutting off. Once it is warmed up after driving around a block or two, it will rise to 600rpm, and eventually to 1100rpm when idling and be fine.

I was wondering what these two problems could be coming from?

    thanks in advance

Pull the vacuum hose on your fuel pressure regulator and see if fuel comes out. If so you need a new regulator.
