M10 Questions...Turbo or ITB Race Project..

I have a 85 318I, was told the motor was rebuilt 80k ago, it runs strong, no leaks, no smoke, no issues. I want to boost the motor slightly or do ITB's on the car, looking for a little more power. Obviously boost will yield better results power wise.

First question, is valve tick usual? It's been ticking, I am 99% sure it's valves, I was told if I adjust them they may be a tad quieter but not silent.

Second, when should the timing chain be swapped, and is there anyway to tell when it's getting old, or the tensioner?

It seems hard to find a turbo manifold for an M10, but I read you can flip the stock manifold over and make an adapter for the turbo, is this the easiest way to boost an M10?

Is the stock ECU capable of ANY boost, such as 4-5lbs until I build a Megasquirt?

For ITB's does anyone make them for this car, and has anyone made any DIY ones? I had a Miata I cut the stock intake manifold, put GSXR600 throttle bodies, and ran it that way, ran a MS to get rid of the AFM and all.

    Any input appreciated!! :)

I was looking at a turbo setup for a while and i was planning to use this mani. They look ebay cheap but there are some reviews so search for them, they seem to be alright quality. Or you could go all out and get a 666 manifold for like 1k.
As for management i would NOT use the stock ecu, if anything i would build MS first then turbo. Dont cut corners on a turbo setup.
    Good luck

PM Otis (Good & Tight). He pulled like 470whp out of an M10 for quite a while before the motor kicked the bucket.

He makes turbo manifolds, and I heard nothing but great things on his M10 manifolds.

Guys it only made 359rwhp not 470 but actually over 400hp at the flywheel.
I still make manifolds for $420 shipped, made from schedule 40 pipe and will work with A/C.
The cheapy boostbrothers manifold will not work with A/C.

Whoops. I actually asked myself if it was 360 (or 359) or 460. :p My mistake.

Tip: Get a Callaway turbo set-up.

It's a great engine 4 more horse power definitely put a blower, or turbo on it. The M10 is an excellent design based off a Formula 1 block.

Callaway? Ok, so he can be stuck in 1986.

Based on F1 block? eehhh.... lets get the fact straight.

The great "1500hp" f1 engines use 2002 blocks.

OP, get a megasquirt, a bb header or goodntight and a ebay t3/t4 if you want to blow some stuff up. Any real turbo setup takes serious dough, and you will probably end up grenading it soon if you dont sink enough money into it.

Why the hate on MS? I've used them on previous cars with great success.

The reason Jean is laughing at your statement is that you have it backwards, the M10 came long before the formula 1 motor.
