I think my friend ran his 318i out of oil. What would that sound like?

Oil pickups are right on the bottom of the pan.... Of course the level will be lower when the engine is running, but 2 quarts is still enough to keep it flowing.

Probably not, but might as well throw out the simple solution just in case ;)
Oh this is much louder than a noisy blower. I pretty much have to plug my ears when its going. I almost feel like its starter/flywheel related though but the smoke comes from the valvetrain area as well as the back of the block. BTW nice GT6.

I think it may have started when he was driving it around and not all of the oil was settled in the pan since he apparently hadn't checked it in quite a while. We filled it to full capacity now and it still sounds the same

Time to pull the cover and take a look.

FWIW, I have seen engines run totally dry with squealing bearings. They all tend to quiet down after adding oil. Might be something else going on

cool, just checking since I just fixed my annoying blower squeal a couple hours ago, so it was on my mind.

That is one possibility I have thought of but I don't know anything about m10s haha.

This seems to be true lol. Ran it for a bit after topping off the oil and the noise went away lol.
