So I've got a couple inches of shifter slop. What bushing do I need to change to eliminate this shifter has no feel at all. I heard there are some plastic pieces inside the trans that get worn out that cause slop. Anyone chime in?

There are a bunch of parts to replace. Somewhere...someone made a write-up on how to install needle bearings on all the slop parts to COMPLETELY eliminate slop. Sorry I couldn't be of more help -
Just pull up the parts breakdown on realoem.com and order all of the bushings, washers ect for the linkage. Pelican usually carries most of the parts.Comment

The shifter carriage is all new still didnt solve much. Which is why I suspect its internal. This is the second trans with the fresh carriage same results on both. I have a spare 240 laying around which I can work on so I can rebuild & swap in. Also I need some help getting the shifter center (sitting slightly off centered). I've moved the trans & motor mounts around, but can't seem to get it centered. Any tips?

Oh and I don't have reverse lights. Had this issue before, but the wires got cut going to the sensor on the trans. This time just went out completely. Sensor works & I've followed the wiring all the way back to the taillights no shorts. Anything else I should check?

My wires got chopped too. I haven''t fixed it. I haven't needed to swap my trans to fix any slop, but that my be your problem. I know mine would be take care of if I did the needle bearing swap, but since I haven't, I have a little north south slop, but east west slop has been taken care of.Comment

I've got complete NSEW slop. Haha. It's quite annoying not having reverse lights

I'll look into that. That's the one part of he shifter I didn't change. I actually snapped one of the ends off once & just welded it back together so I guess I should get a new one anyways

biggest difference for me was new T bushing thing. The rod that connects the gear shifter goes through it.'84 318i M10B18 147- Safari Beige
