Snapped a key in ignition help!

So a key snapped in my ignition. Like I guys should know the cylinder doesn't have the little slot to release the barrel. How can I get it out? I tried picking it. No go

im pretty sure you already tried this, but can you turn the key in the ignition cylinder with the handle along with the blade in there?

If you can, you can use the paper clip trick to remove the cylinder.

If all else fails, I was a locksmith at one point and we used to use a tool to fish blades out of cylinders. Maybe ask at a shop to see if they will sell you one.

heres an image of what I'm talking about

    the bottom ones.

    Good luck!

I'm sure someone can chime in on cylinder removal assuming you can turn the key.

I can turn the key, but like I said in the first post I can't remove the cylinder like later cars. I'm stuck in a rut. Can't really get a paper clip in between the key. Thinking abou just pulling the shaft so it's easier to work on.

If you can turn it then you can remove the steering wheel at which point I think you should be able to remove the entire lock mechanism and either replace it or take it to a locksmith for service.

Yea I think il just have to pull the steering column & take it to a lock smith. How much does something like this usually cost?

Make a couple of calls or stop by a local locksmith and look humble...lol

It might be cheaper and/or easier to buy a new lock unless they can duplicate whats left in your lock. Just remember that if the lock jams and you cant unlock and remove the steering wheel, you are f^#ked.

Not only is that the right way to go, but if you are not in a desperate time crunch, have them order you a lock with your VIN...so you dont have to change any other locks ;)

When you find out what, if any price difference there is between a new lock with a generic key vs one keyed to your VIN, let us know.
