    e30 M10 engine cuts out

After changing the head gasket on my '85 318i, its runs sweet at idle and light throttle but under load it cuts out at about 3000 rpm. The revs then drop until it gets to around 1200 rpm then kicks away again. Will run non stop under light throttle.

Had injectors cleaned while out, changed fuel filter. Looked at the in-tank unit but it appears to be only a float/sender - i can't see a pump module in there.

I don't have a fuel injection tester so may just swap out the external pump/fpr to see what happens.

Am i right going down the fuel pressure route? any suggestions?

Car has new water pump, air filter, cap, rotor, etc. This fault did not exist before the HG change so maybe it did something........

May be a long shot but the ICV could do that. The ICV on these motors are SHIT. Just delete it.

I understand that the ICV controls the idle but when he said it dropped in RPM and then jumped up that is a symptom of a bad ICV. Mine did that all the time. Also may want to check the TPS and like he said intake leaks.

...found a split in the vacuum line that goes from Distrib to throttle body. Fixed it but now battery is dead. Test drive and update later.

yes. they are pieces of shit. even a working one doesnt usually work right. You can bypass and adjust your idle with the adjustment screw on the throttle body.....

That's not what I was questioning. cutting out would not be caused from the ICV. There's no need to delete the ICV if the car is idling fine.

as well, L-Jet uses a WOT switch TPS, and I'd have hard time thinking that that would be the issue.

None the less, if you want to send people on wild goose chases, that's the way to do it.

Im just speaking from experience. My m10 did weird shit like that before I got rid of my ICV.

As far as the WOT switch TPS I did not know that.

I like how nobody mentions a bad CTS as it can cause a rich condition in which it will hardly idle, and if it idles ok, then it will bog it down as it's adding too much fuel in the higher RPM's

But on a second note, fix all intake leaks first.

I think he means coolant temp sensor.

... I'm kinda "eh" on that idea. but they're so cheap there's nothing wrong with replacing it.
