    84 318i m10 in an 82 e21 320i

So I just dropped an m10 from an 84 e30 318i into my 82 e21 320i. I need help connecting the e30 harness to the e21 fuse box, and any other details needed with the "swap". Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

If you can PM me your email, I can get you the 1984 electrical troubleshooting manual for a 318/325, it should have all of the diagrams that you are looking for, at least on the e30 side.

umm, that's not going to work. You'll need to use the E21 engine harness and intake, or the E30 body
harness and computer and fuel pump and stuff.

The E21 is CIS- essentially, mechanical fuel injection.
        The E30 is L-Jet EFI.

The two just won't mate... don't you remember that song by Loverboy?

I have the e30 motor all complete in the e21. Intake, computer, head, fuel, ignition, everything. so my plan is to wire the e30 harness to the e21 fuse box. I would be taking apart a great motor if I changed out the fuel and computer, etc. back to the e21.

Ah- then you want the E30 fuse box and body harness as well. It'll be SOOOOOOO much
            easier in the long run.

Yeah. The e30 that I got the m10 from was my friends that he put an m20 in and kept the box and body harness.

So I need to rip the e21 body harness and fuse box out?

Install the e30 box and harness?

But will it all hook up to my dash, etc.?

Well, you'll have to splice somewhere, I guess. If you get the E30 ETM,
and the E21 factory manual, you can decode the
engine harness connector and do your splicing there.

The E21 uses a mechanical speedo, so that will work...

After that, it gets tricky, because the E30 integrates the ignition into the ECU, and
the E21 kept it separate. I suppose you could ditch the E21 ignition and run the E30's,
because the E21 curves are probably different for the CIS.

The EFI only wants about a dozen signals from the body- mostly power, and it returns
just a few (CEL, Alt, etc).

This is going to take some research... and I don't remember enough specifics
                from the E21/early E30.

The etm for the 318 is available here. My email account wouldn't let me send it.
