318i DME Clarification

Hey guys, quick question:

Does 84 318i need DME identified as 0-280-000-310 and 85 318i need DME identifies as 0-280-000-328?

I couldnt crank the 84 m10 until I swapped the 310 DME with 328 DME. Now it cranks but idles really bad.

Do i need a new 310 DME?

In my experience, a 328 will run the earlier car but not the opposite. The later car had more relays under the hood in addition to the idle control module in the glove box. I would try to find another 310.

Installed the 310 and it fired up. However, still idling like crap so quest continues
