    Throttle response

    Hi,
new to me 1989 325i convertible with 131.000km
this has been the case (and maybe not a problem) since I got a month ago.
cars starts fine runs fine has power but when I blip the gas it kind of chokes like a sort of delay. If I push the gas slowly not issue at all.
has new oil and filter plugs air filter and the car is extremely well maintained.
Is this normal and if not what can I look for in sorting it out?
in my opinion this is not right as I’ve had tons fo cars and none had this type of choke\delay when I blip the gas.

    thank you

The first thing to look at is the intake boot from the Air Fuel Meter (AFM) to the throttle body. They tend to crack and these engines are sensitive to unmetered air. Then take a look at spark plugs, cap and rotor to ensure they are in good condition. After that, the AFM itself can cause similar symptoms. There are videos on the internet on how to move the contact to a fresh area of the contact strip but reconditioned AFMs are available.

          Ok further updates
I removed the distributor rotor in pieces as I couldn’t get one bolt out and it’s obvious this was not making good contact.
I have installed new rotor cleaned the cap abs new bremi cables.
Car starts and runs excellent with no hesitation.
          I think this did it.

          thank you
