    Throttle body heater bypass

I had the gasket on my throttle body heater fail, so I am going to bypass rather than replace (I live in the PNW). I know I can just tie the hose coming out of the thermostat into the one that goes into the back of block, but I'd prefer to plug the opening on the back of the block (e.g., by removing 28 and replacing with 13/14; https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...diagId=11_0119). Anyone done this while the engine was still in the car? It seems like its going to be a real pain to get the connector (#28) out.

For now I'll just put a plug on a short run of hose off the thermostat, but want to tap that for a brass plug too. Got the SSSquid /Silas throttle body bypass plate - it looks nice.

i did, and it wasn't a big deal. Since you're gonna have to drain the coolant anyways, moving some of the coolant lines away will help you access it better. Worst case scenario, you can pull the intake manifold, but no need to pull the entire engine

Thanks. I've already had to pull the TB to get at fasteners on the "heater plate," so I guess pulling the intake manifold wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.

I did this. I had my intake manifold pulled off since I was refreshing everything. I put a plug in the block and got rid of all the unnecessary hoses.

Don't forget to install a throttle body block off plate.

You can get them from garagistic too.

A heads up, in colder climates, the warm coolant in the throttle body is used to ensure the throttle body doesn't freeze open.

        Good luck.

good time to replace the orings for the bitch tube and to simplify the booster vacuum line too.
