    Driveshaft rebuild/replacement options?

I've got a driveshaft in need of new U-joints. One is extremely stiff and the other has some play in it. A local driveshaft repair shop told me they will have to send it out to a specialist to get rebuilt and looking at a 3 month lead time. I see some options online, cheaper aftermarket driveshafts ~$300 or send it to Ireland Engineering and they will rebuild it for $450.

Has anyone here been through this lately? What direction did you go.

I'm also looking to get mine refurbished. The IE service seems like a good option but I'm looking for something on the east coast to try and save on shipping.

I took my driveshaft to a drive line services company here in Australia. They said they could remove the oem bmw ones (that aren't serviceable) and install some other uni joints that were serviceable and greaseable. it involved boring out the uni joint to make way for the new one, i think machining some circlip grooves. basic machining work really, but not exactly typical driveshaft work. They wanted around 500aud including re balancing. I didn't end up doing it as they said my uni joints were in good condition (my issue was found elsewhere). But if my uni joints do go bad id be inclined to take it back to them for it to be done.

3 months seems insane though. USA is huge, surely someone else can do it!
