    i head swap question.

Before anything, I need to mention that my 87 325i has a 86 eta motor in it. Don't ask why, the PO decided that's the motor he wanted. I guess the cool thing is that all the electronics and the wiring/ecu is for the i motor but the eta still runs fabulous with it.

Now I'm growing a bit sick of the 4500rpm limit that I constantly have to be aware of since my ecu is for the i motor that supposed to rev 6000+

My question is, if I sourced a 87 325i head and all the accessories on it, could I just swap it with the eta head and keep the eta block that i have on now? I mean, the car is made for a i motor. And I have all the i electronics in the car now running the eta motor. Would this work? Please enlighten this noob.

    Justin

    yes

but there may be a few things left to wire up or replace to make it work. It all depends on how thorough the previous owner conducted the swap.

That is doable and will result in a "budget stroker" In this case you'll need an I head, intake, and throttle body.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

I mean, i did notice a few connectors that were left unhooked and dangliing. But otherwise, seems like like a pretty straightforward swap.

It's already running a i throttle body, icv. What about the fuel injectors? are they the same between the eta's and the i's?

Also if I replaced the head with the i head, I get my 6000+ rev limit back right??

another question. If i had the eta block and i head, as you call a 2.7i, which timing belt would I need to get? one for the eta or the i?

Just get one from pnp and build it with a 272 reground cam from ireland. It wold be pretty sick. I think BFC has some great info the build up. The head should be milled like .020 or somthing.

Gonna build for reliability and simplicity for now. I've been searching for this one answer though. Which afm would the 2.7i require? the eta one or the i one?? Also about the fuel injectors? eta or i injectors??
