Intermittent Misfire at 4000 RPM — CPS or AFM Signal Interference?

I have a new '88 325i, running the original M20B25 engine. Mostly original, except for the rebuilt cam head (original cam), new timing belt, and replacement exhaust. The ECU is a standard Motronic 1.3. The car ran perfectly for 30-45 minutes until the engine was fully warmed up (and ambient temperature was high). Once fully warmed up and idling in heavy traffic, I experienced a misfire that suddenly started at exactly 4,000 rpm in any gear. It felt like a sudden, sharp fuel loss or miss, lasting less than a second, but severe enough to disrupt acceleration. Importantly, it was intermittent. Sometimes it happened five times in a row, sometimes not at all, at the same rpm above 4,000 rpm. Below 4,000 rpm it jerks very hard, and at wide open throttle (WOT) it usually clears the problem without a hitch. The problem is worst at full throttle after a period of hot idling. What should I do with this car?
The pursuit of M20 perfection is real; gotta fight the level devil in the parking lot every week

More than likely it's in the ignition (wires, ignitor, or cap and rotor). I was having this issue. And I replaced a lot of stuff chasing it. I went full standalone with individual coil packs and now I no longer have this issue. But I do believe it's in the ignition somewhere.

I had this issue again even after I went standalone and it was due to spark lead coming loose from it's crimp. I replaced the wire and that fixed my issue.
