If the fusible link is dead, the engine won't run as that link supplies power to the DME.

With those symptoms I'd suspect a fuel delivery issue, intake leak, bad AFM, or bad DME. The fuel system pressure and delivery tests are in the Bentley manual and a smoke test is the definitive test for intake leaks. Once those are eliminated as suspects try swapping in a known good AFM and/or DME.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Hi ya- Thanks for the reply. to test I jumpered around the dead link so DME has power
I did the fuel test yesterday everything seemed to be spot on. pres. /delivery. also swapped pressure reg. no change. tried another AFM that I believe is good.general Bentley potentiometer/ temp sensor were within range
also seems to poss. be temp related.the coolant temp ohms were in range. it is intermittent ,more pronounced when the engine is hotter- mid day.
I can have the smoke test done. so it's of f tho the 'professionals' tomorrow

Did stomp test came up AFM , throt. positioner -within range.
Any source for replacement Fusible Link ?!

      Thanks j levie..

I'd just replace the fusible link with a 30A fuse.

There are two coolnt temp sensors. One for the DME and one for the gauge. Which did you test?

Hi thanx for the fuse info only amp ratings I could find related to 525 , I cant remember looked at so much stuff, any way. I was planning on doing a regular inline fuse.

I check the blue sensor i think Bentl said a 68 deg +- the ohm reading was ok.
also serching other sites came across post by thejlevie. you posted up spec 30 write up now I can't find it can you direct me? also found fault codes for 'stomp test from e30.......rld. I'm going to try those.
only codes I had previously were from Bently.. G2G now
          Thanks

I'm not sure what post you are referring to. My user name is thejlevie on Bimmerforums and everywhere else it is jlevie. So I'm unsure as to what you are referring to.

              Thanks for all the input!
We replaced the fusible link in trunk and drove today in hot conditions no problems. have good voltage at bat. terminal in engine compartment.
