    turbo:)

how much pounds of boost can u put on a stock M20B25

    #2
I'm going to say maybe 7 or 9 PSI on stock 8.8:1 compression without anything done. All depends on what fuel, water injection? thicker gasket? there are many things you can play with.

if you're using an aftermarket standalone ecu then you can probably run about 15 pounds of boost, without a standalone probably 7 or 8, and in relation to the ebay kits, there is a discussion going on about them over on e30tech, but it is about the m10 kit and not the m20, most people will tell you it is junk so just be prepared.

Mmm... no. The m20 is a bulletproof motor to boost. The stock compression is just about perfect. The internals are very strong. People have pushed 20psi+ into a stock m20 with stock headgaskets and stock headbolts. It's all about good tuning.

Though perfect tuning is hard to come by. The headgasket is the only "weak" point of the m20. With crappy tuning most people blow headgaskets at about 10psi. At that point you can upgrade to headstuds w/ an MLS headgasket, or you can o-ring the block, or you can weld the head. The stock engine itself has been proven for over 400whp.

Ebay kits aren't good, if you're looking for an m20 turbo kit, and are willing to pay the price, TCD (turbochargingdynamics.com), makes excellent kits.

guess you dont want a reliable turbo setup then. pretty much the minimum setup would be:

                      666fab manifold adapter: $250 used
                      holset turbo: $250 used
                      large injectors: $150
                      arp headstuds: $200
                      ebay intercooler kit: $100
megasquirt and wideband: ~$400-600 depending on if you make it yourself.
custom exhaust: $200-400 depending on if you make it yourself

add a few hundred dollars for a clutch, a few more for tuning (unless you tune yourself), and a few more all the extra shit that you have no idea you'll need.

save up and do it right the first time. go standalone before you turbo to get familiar with it. you want a reliable fast e30, you gotta pay the price.

i can build you a custom plug and play megasquirt kit for a very reasonable price. it will let you remove the AFM (for ZERO restriction in your intake), and get you more familiar with tuning. since tuning is the most important part of a turbo engine, once you finally save up for and gather quality parts, you will be ready to slap them on and go.

other than that, the only real bolt on "go fast" parts are performance chips, larger afm, larger injectors, etc.
