Thnx for the quote jlevie. Sent this to Bosch Germany. And Autozone. With photos of the starter.
    Attn: Customer Service
I bought this starter from Autozone in Florida, USA. Installed it and found it to be defective. I believe it to be the "unloader function". Which makes me suspect as to the rest of this rebuild. Now I have to remove it at my time expense and have it replaced. Possibly with another defective unit. The serial numbers tell you guys the information on the rebuild. Now I have to find one from a different lot. This is just so unacceptable from you guys. I drive a 1989 BMW 325is. Full of your parts.

I don't think bosch has anything to do with the rebuild. They are just the people who manufactured the part originally. Usually a third party company rebuilds them for Autozone/Advanced auto and the like.

Autozone offered to replace the starter with one from a different lot. And $40 cash refund. Starter cost $120. I got $40 and an Ice cold kegmiester (shock top or bud select) and nice pool for the first guy/girl to get over and swap them. Lunch too, and maybe a reach around. If it's a girl, you can give me a reach around after you're done.

Just got a call from the company that remanufactures the starter. They pulled one from their shelf in California and are going to do a proper bench test and the ship it overnight. Specifically testing the "R function" as they refer to it. Also testing it to BMW's specifications.

It's out again, so the reach around is off the table.
