Need help identifying a new noise

The other day I replaced the headgasket (leaky oil journal fouling my garage floor) and the front cam seal (same). Now, there is a loud, rapid tick from the front cam area that sounds like a wickedly mis-adjusted valve, but much faster. It's so rapid it's almost a hiss. It wasn't there before, and it's the loudest thing in the engine bay now. I took video, hopefully the audio is good enough to make out what I'm saying. Note, I'm not talking about the normal m20 sewing machine noise, this is much louder, faster and higher pitched. Any ideas what it might be?

Never loosened them, I disconnected at the downpipes. Never disconnected the intake manifold either, I lifted the whole thing off in one giant chunk.

All i got for you is a mismounted rotor tapping the posts in the distributor or fanblades hitting/knicking something.

With it's frequency, I'd look at the externals on the front rather than inside where your ticking would be by cylinder and not all the time.

double check your timing - sounds to me like the belt is off a few teeth ...... granted vid sound capture gets a bit attenuted - nonetheless - it has a touch of diesel sound to it ... I did that on an M20 I had before.

I had to take the front end apart again to replace a leaky O-ring, and after putting it all together the noise seems to have disappeared. However I also did a valve adjustment, and they actually got louder. Gotta re-check the clearances in the morning.
