    Cam regrinds

So I broke #6 intake rocker a week ago while racing some punk in a mazdaspeed 3 (i won), i picked up a used head to scavenge the rocker arm from, and now im thinkin of sending the cam from this head to Ireland Engineering to get reground. anybody have good or bad thoughts on this?
they say i need to get oversized eccentric adjusters for the rockers, but they dont list them on the site. where can i find a set of these? i tried searching and found nothing

that or lash caps. I don't think it's a bad deal though. I'd save for Schrick though.

i'd rather have a new stock cam than a regrind, personally.

yes, the advertised duration will be longer, but that doesn't neccesarily help anything.

a new "STOCK" cam? or a new AFTERMARKET cam??

From what i have been reading, and this may not apply to our engines anyway, but most performance cams you buy are actually regrinds of old cores.
the 190.00 charge for the regrind doesnt seem that bad and labor is free

I would rather have a stock cam than a regrind, yes. of course a real aftermarket cam would be my first choice but people considering regrinds aren't usually interested in a $500 schrick. a new stock cam is less than $200 last I checked.

there is more to a cam profile than advertised duration. They can grind down the base circle to get more duration out of it but there is a limit to how much they can do to improve the profile at low lifts, among other drawbacks.

your engine already has a STOCK cam in it, why change it?

you would change it if it's worn out, either for a new one or a performance one.

what I'm saying is I feel that a regrind would be more of a downgrade overall from a fresh stock cam. Except you now have a higher advertised duration, which is meaningless if you don't know what the profile is like (especially at low lift). if your valvetrain is so worn that your cam needs replaced, a new stock one is already going to give you a nice performance gain.

IE also sells a new billet cam 272 for $355, thats allot better then 450-500 for a shrick....

Thats the one im planing on installing pretty soon...

delta does hard weld + regrind. result is dimensionally equivalent to a billet cam, durability is somewhat questioned. however, alot of engines run them without issues. i think it is the best bang for the buck solution.

a pure regrind on an m20 cam is a bad idea. unless you dont change much.

save up and buy a schrick 272 with new springs or jus trpalce with a new stock cam. don't do a regrind.

yes, they make quite good cams. Most of them are more agressive than their schrick equivalents.

the info on the cams is great, but why are some people suggesting i replace my cam with a stock cam? there is nothing wrong with my cam, i just got my hands on a used head with a cam in it and thought why not have it reground. IE needs you to send them a core first, so since my cars a daily driver i couldnt do that. thats why when i picked up a used cam i thought of maybe doing the regrind. im thinking i may keep away from the regrinds though after what some have said about them
