I think I'm going to cry

Just did the eta-->i head swap. Put big injectors in. New (used) tranny installed with short-shift lever (Z3 3.0). Fresh Mobil 1. Fired it up. Rear main seal now leaks like crazy (didn't touch the flywheel area during swap). Ugh

Obvious that the injectors are way too big. So, I pulled the injectors today to put the stock back in. In the process of installing the fuel rail I watched as the socket slipped on the retaining bolt. The bolt flipped into the air and dropped into the open head (I was double-checking valve clearance too) and down the oil drain hole and into the block. I am so tired at this point that I only feel numbness. Reality will hit tomorrow, I'm sure.

That's what I thought. Tried that for 2 hours. No-go. So, I pulled the pan on Saturday. With all the baffling in that pan the bolt dropped to a point that was impossible to reach. However, it probably never would have caused any trouble. But I still didn't want to risk it. However, there may be a bright side to this story...

I mentioned previously that my rear main seal leaked like crazy after the swap. However, due to the screwy oilpan/bellhousing arrangement it might have been the oilpan gasket all along. When I removed the brittle composite gasket (piece by piece) I noticed a film of fresh oil between the rear gasket and the block. I've fired it up & driven it and I see no more oil leaks. Time will tell. Perhaps I can now use synthetic after all?
