Gas mileage change with performance cam

This may seem stupid but I consider cost with every decision.

I am upgrading my 2.5 (87) engine in my 3 series coupe, manual trans. Rings, matched ports, headers etc.

I have never purchased a performance cam. I sure like the performance benifits but what is the cost?

Can those with experience give me a ball park figure of their highway milages?

    Stock cam ?

    272 ?

    284 ?

    288 ?

I asked Turner and they said they had never had a question like that (he was polite about it). He said the main consideration is getting more power.

I expect a loss but I am not interested in a 15 mpg car.

    Thanks,
    Chuck

I never experienced much of a difference in MPG with a 284/272. I'd think with a milder cam the MPG difference would be pretty negligible. of course that depends on how your tune ends up being. I don't think you'll be seeing 15mpg unless it's running poorly.
