    Adjustable cam timing question

    Hi,
I am working over my 325i engine. Matched ports, rings, lightened flywheel etc.

We installed a new Schrick 284 with an adjustable sprocket. The head was milled just to clean up (maybe .010"). I was thinking of advancing the cam timing 3 degrees to make up for the mill job. What do you think?
Also since I did not install new springs and rockers, I will be keeping the revs down to maybe 6000 so my power range should not be adjusted to 7000...?????

Time and time again, the proper way to do this is with the playdough on the valve reliefs technique. I got custom pistons, with deep reliefs, and a 272 cam, but admittedly, didn't bother checking my clearances. You hopefully hung on to your old headgasket, so you can temporarily retorque the head down, install belt, and roll the motor over twice, remove head, then check the playdough. What pistons are in the block, stock 2.5?

check your clearances! with a shaved head your intake valves are going to be *very* close to the pistons at TDC. min clearance is 1.5mm. I'm not sure advancing the cam is the way to go, but the only way to know for sure is to measure.

also that cam wil peak at about 6500rpm so if you wanted to keep the revs down you should have stayed stock. ;)
