Best simple mods to the m20?

Best thing to do to the m20 is to remove it completely. If you want serious power and are not in need of a daily go s52, if you want good power, and have a budget(especially for maintenance), go m30 b35. If you need a daily go m50 or m52. Other than that, a really thorough tune up is about the best you'll do without spending the money it would take to put at least an m50 in it, which is a better motor all around. Make sure while doing your tune up you get the OEM replacements, not those Bosch platinum garbage sparks(electrode on them isn't long enough), the platinum is really just a marketing thing to get you to buy them. I would go with NGK. Don't put a K&N in it, waste of money. High quality fuel system cleaner could help. A 3.73lsd, is probably the most important thing at this point for your car, I wouldn't do 4.10, it gets really annoying on the highway. A chip will do decently for you, as well. I really like my Mark D for my M30. Short shifter will make it a little faster too. Cat back exhaust will do decently to increase the thrill of the car IMO, even though it won't make it any faster. The m20 isn't really worth a damn IMHO while naturally aspirated, too expensive to modify for the power returns that you will get.

open the ecu up and see if there is a chip that doesn't look like it belongs. report back with any markings, or better take a pic.

I have not had any issues so far with 87 octane. looking at the chips available on his site I am interested in confirming it is for the stock 14# injectors.

A chip and free-flow exhaust are worthwhile. There's no power to be gained from swapping out the stock air box. Just make sure it has a clean filter in it.

I've got that same chip, it is Mark D. You need 91 octane for that chip, but around here they only have 89 and 93 so I use 93.
