on the 2nd one I am thinking no more than bearings. I might even toss in an oil pan and run it before i pull stuff off this car and know for sure. Thanks for your thoughts.

replace, or at the very least inspect, the bearings!

In the case of the first engine, at the least the bottom end is gone and at the worst the block is beyond salvage. The head on that engine probably has burned camshaft bearings and is likely just a paper weight now. Unless you want to spend an inordinate amount of money that engine is probably just scarp yard fodder. But to be sure you'll have to tear it down and have a look.

In the case of the second engine if it truly was shut off within 20 seconds of the loss of oil and the engine speed wasn't near the top it is probably okay. A new oil pump and pan might be all that's needed.

started a topic m20's with no oil

    m20's with no oil

I just picked up two e30's. One was being driven on the freeway and ran out of oil and seized up. The 2nd got a ripped off oil pan- along with other things- and ran for about 20 sec (gently) until it was shut off. What do you guys think happened in the number one engine and two, what would go first in the number two engine? think the head is fine? I need to make one complete running motor.
Working...
