Damn, $800 for a driveshaft? There's some kind of clunking coming from the rear when I shift. Looks like I'll probably need a new driveshaft soon. :(

Has anybody just gotten measurements and had a one piece driveshaft made? I mean hell, there's a place a couple miles from me that does damn good work and it'd probably only be a couple hundred for a new custom built driveshaft.

i the same exact issue happend to my car.
same symptoms and everything, didnt think much of it..
its off the road right now because of the snow so im not driving on it.
but i was installing the proper transmission cross-member ( the guy who i got it off of didnt finish the 5spd swap) and i noticed a rubber piece a little bit behind the transmission cross-member that seamed to support the shaft was torn and no supporting shit. and it all started to make sence.

upon inspection of a new csb i think someone needs to come up with a beffier setup for us. the stock csb seems to be a little flimsy imo

Dunno. It's been a while since I've been under my car, lol. Is there something in the way? I know the exhaust and driveshaft share the tunnel, but I still think it'd be worth a shot.

EDIT: Yeah, just took a look under my car (well I went to the rear bumper and took a look). Looks like a pretty straight shot with the exhaust underneath. I think a 1-piece driveshaft would fit no problem. *shrug*

i fully agree with you my good sir. lets get Ireland engineering on the horn. we can start this persuasion by questioning Ireland engineering's manliness.

lol well i have come to find out our driveshafts are rebuildable. What they do is take our old you joints that arent reaplaceable and replace them with new servicable ones.

dude, if it was that easy, wouldn't we all do that?

it's not as easy as it sounds

Probably, but I don't see how a car as small as an E30 really needs a two piece driveshaft. I've only seen them on big ass trucks. Actually I've seen them on other cars that people use for drag racing (can't remember wtf it was...I wanna say 4th gen Camaros but that doesn't sound right), and they were replaced with one piece driveshafts.

If I ever get a freakin job I'd be down to get a one-piece made just to try.

Matt, the deal is that you cannot INSTALL the 1 piece driveshaft, see? You have stubs on both ends, the damn thing has to collapse somewhere to let it fit between the diff and the transmission.

Meh...drop the diff, put the driveshaft in, put the diff back up.

Might be a slight hassle, but it's cheaper. ;)
