start car, shots to redline. tb isn't stuck.halp!!

    symptons and things I checked.

ok so I replaced my mounts with a more solid set up and in the process I had to remove the evap canister and intake elbow along with misc attached stuff. finished up the mounts and put everything back. This is like the 8 time I have removed the intake set up with no problems before.

Now when I go to start it it, the rpms skyrocket to redline. the throttle body is not stuck, I've checked all vacumm hoses and clamps. Could the iac be on the fritz? That what ever is right on frame between shock tower the driver headlight(closer to the head light) are making a weird noises when the key is turned on but car is not started.

thanks for any help. and yes all my electrical plugs are connected.

    :(

that v12 at the local u pull is very tempting lol

That funky thing making weird noises? That's the cruise control assembly/motor. Disconnect the second throttle cable from your TB (not the one connected to your gas pedal); it is pulled in and out by that cruise control module.

My cruise control shit itself a couple years ago in much the same way. It was kinda fun on the highway when my car would suddenly decide it needed to be going 85mph, like flying a spaceship! However, it was not as fun when I was at a dead stop in a parking lot and almost plastered some skateboarding kids.

It's no doubt some kind of electrical short, or maybe a bad connection: I never actually figured out what went wrong in the CC module because cruise control is for sissies.

the ICV can rev the engine to about 3500rpm max

thats probably it then, I do know that the cruise control was f'ing up before it was parked this winter. I'll unplug it tonight and give that a go. If not I'll be back...

the car is solid mounts, stiff as hell springs. welded diff, I think I can manage with out cruise control. lol

The cruise control still has to open the throttle body, so start the car with the hood open and see if the TB opens up when you start it.

It could be a massive vacuum leak inside the intake manifold, although I'd have a hard time imagining where it could be.

it's easy enough to unook the cruise control cable from the TB, you don't even need any tools.

I think cruise control is in the same category as power steering and AC as far as unnecessary comforts. I prefer being able to "feel the road" through my throttle foot and steering wheel at all times.

Didn't really bother me on the 12 hrs between Raleigh and New Orleans, or on the way back to CO.

                Maybe that's just me?!
I mean, I could sit in a well-adjusted sport seat for hours and not get uncomfortable.
Honda Civic, on the other hand..........ugh.
I thought my spinal column was about to eject itself out the window out of self preservation on a mere two hour trip between Raleigh and Jacksonville.

I don't think there's a way it's anything BUT the cruise control. A massive vacuum leak in the manifold wouldn't be registered by the AFM so you'd just run really lean and stumble.

it would be nice if people posted resolutions to their problems......

I mean, the search function is kinda pointless if you find a bunch of threads with no answer at the end because the OP skipped off into the sunset.
