    a) E30s don't have MAFs. it's an AFM.
    b) smelling the tailpipe is not a replacement for a wideband. With a wideband you'll know exactly what way to turn it.
    c) unless something is fucked, you aren't going to gain power by changing the mixture.

That adjustment on the AFM is the idle bypass adjustment, which controls the amount of air that bypasses the vane at idle. Once the rest of the engine management system is operating as it is supposed to that screw is adjusted for a specific idle mixture as reflect by an exhaust gas analyzer. If you think it needs to be adjusted, you almost certainly have other problems that need to be fixed first (like intake leaks or a misbehaving ICV).
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

well i took my car to a mechanic cause it wouldnt pass smog about a year ago. i had replaced the "afm" because the old one was adjusted to all the way to one side and had broken. so i took the car to a mechanic and he said the only thing he had to do to make it pass smog was adjust that little bolt. well after he did that it feels like i have lost a good 5-10hp.... so i figured he cheated and just leaned the car out. i wanna richen it back up
