      I'm bored, prepare for pictures!

underside of maifold - reference shot and the camera can see where I can not.

the end ones are the hardest, this one is behind a coolant hose that MUST come off. get a gallon ziplock to catch the coolant that will spew out of it when you take it off.

this is the next most difficult - jam a long 12mm 6pt socket with a u joint down between the manifold and the wiring to get to it.

      more reference shots.

heres what I did to the tube to keep the spring compressed until i was done.

      manifold off.

the middle most stud is long, you have to pull the manifold far enough away to get the center gasket off and the new one back on.

      old gasket - shit!

      new gasket on.

      Job done!

          Thanks :)

it took me 2:00:39 start to finish which is really not bad because I actually had to refit the manifold 2 times (oil tube screwed me over)

if you were prepared well and had the tools next to you, this is a 1.5 hour job.

a dirty, pain in the ass 1.5 hours though :)

well that was the case, but even with a good, charged battery later that day it cranks quite a bit before it starts

I replaced the intake manifold gaskets about two weeks ago and I just realized last night that I didn't put the oil return tube back in first. So I have to pull the manifold back off the head again and replace the tube. My question is do you think my gaskets will be fine or should I buy new ones again? The car has not been driven at all.
Also I used this liquid permatex sealant stuff on all the gaskets, so I suppose thats gonna fuck up my intake gaskets when I pull them off.

yeah, just don't contaminate them with anything and you should be fine, a visual inspection of the gasket will tell you, but its only $11 for a new gasket so its up to you as insurance.

that oil return tube is just heinous.

I just think they are going to rip apart because the sealant is on both sides of the gasket. I pull the manifold soon and then I'll know for sure. Just tired of spending money getting back together, I just want to drive the damn thing haha.

i had absolutely no trouble with the oil return tube, i just did mine the other day and the tube just slides into the hole and the manifold just pops out. putting it back in was the same, just placing it in the hole and pushing down on it, easy :). my only problem now is that my idle is low as balls like around 500 rpm and my car is still running rich!!! AHH! when will my idle issues end!!

get a new gasket, make sure both sides are completely free of contaminants! you should be ok :)

you are lucky - I left a lot of things attached in my engine bay that made things harder but it was still a PITA even w/o it

needless to say, I could do this job in 1/3rd the time again if I needed to

my idle is still a bit rough, but thats just my 153 ECM

Just pulled my intake, throttle body, thermostat housing.
Replacing the gasket and all the hoses, vacuum and coolant with the kit from BavAuto. Also replacing the thermostat housing, thermosat and both coolant sensors.
While I have the fuel rail out, sending the injectors to be cleaned flow matched, new orings. Maybe just new injectors. Any input from anyone on this?New fuel line and return fuel line.
Thinking of hot tanking the intake and throttle body to get them squeeky clean then powder coating them, black I think.

While Im at it, and I have a t belt and WP sitting in the garage, hehe. Thinking Ill tear into that side of the engine as well.
WPT-Belt and tensioner. I also have crank seal and cam shaft seal on hand. Also have a set of belts that will go on.Spark plugs, dis cap, rotor, and new set of wires ought to go well with all this R and R.Guess I will hot tank and powder coat the valve cover, of course, new gasket there as well.

Ok guys, what else? I dont want to go this deep again on this car. What else can I do while Im this torn down? Should I go ahead and just pull the head and do valve springs and guides or what?

Input is appreciated. BTW Im in NO hurry to complete this job. Well.. 3-4 months tops as IM moving then.

Please chime in. JLevie.. your thoughts most appreciated Sir.

                            Thanks in advance.

Durnit.. I tried to bullet all the above in a items list, but something screwed up... sorry

how many miles on your car and how loud is your valvetrain? what are your compression numbers?

what you have listed there is pretty much everything that you would need to tear it down that far to begin with, so you should be ok.

don't forget new o-rings on that oil return tube from the IM to the sump. can be messy.
