^ That. You're going to have to go through the wiring diagram and find out what's connected and what isn't.

This may help you a little bit, obviously look on the right side, although I don't know how different the 318s are:

I'm fairly certain all you need to do is hook up C104 green to a switched hot, as is already done, and the engine should operate.

You probably just need to find out what that thick wire coming off the wiring harness is.

Where's that red wire going into? The open holes you've described are fine. Those holes should not be occupied.

thats interesting. is there difference between the way the 2.7 and the 2.5 look? I typed in the dme in google and its giving me reponses that its a 2.7 ecu/dme whatever you want to call it.

Yes. The 2.7 has thinner intake runners on the intake manifold. If you take a picture, it is easy to identify.

Ok. so fred you have been absolute help throughout the whole process. I some how managed to get things on the ball. random started connecting wires with wires and heres where I'm at. finally started up but dies after 30 seconds. I put starting fluid in the i/m and it runs for a good amount of time then dies. obviously its a fuel problem. so even with the fuel pump i checked to make sure its shooting out fuel i'm still having a problem keeping it running. the way the guy did the fuel hose routing thre not even a place for me to check the fuel pressure. what do you think would be my next solution. i'll be searching here as well.

Does it run smoothly for those 30 seconds? Or is it bucking like crazy?

There is no place to check the fuel pressure in an E30. Later E36s had a Schrader test port on the rail to check it, but on the E30, you need to tee in.

Maybe the fuel lines were reversed when the guy did the swap? The supply line goes to the back of the rail, the return comes off the FPR. Trace the fuel lines to underneath the brake booster. There should be three pipes there. Bottom is return, middle is supply.

when i first did it, it ran fine. then i tried again tomake sure and it had hesitation but I'm sure thats because of lack of fuel or whatever reason. i'll look more into that today. that seems like it oculd be a very reasonable outcome of the problem

It should be the charcoal canister line. Just to make sure, you should trace the hardlines from the fuel filter underneath the car (driver's side, right in front of the tank). I'm pretty sure this is the arrangement.

while I'm out there, do you think there are any other factors I should look out for. I know checking the fuel pump, check to see if fuel filter is passing gas through, check the lines to make sure there not reversed. anything else? and depending on if I am getting the proper fuel pressure and fuel what could possibly be the problem. dme?
I mean if I'm getting it to start with starting fluid i'm gettin spark and getting air, just fuel is missing.
