    Engine replacement guide?

Hi, im going from an M20 in my convertible to a different M20. I know it sounds crazy haha, but its just what i want/can afford.

so are there any guides out there? Im newish to E30s and old M20 is already out, as well as the trans.

    please help! :)

Unbolt stuff, pull out motor, put in new motor, bolt stuff.

i just completed one 2 weeks ago. i pulled the engine with the trans.

i didnt have any experience doing engine swaps. but i've done a fair amount of work on e30s before. but not hugely experienced, the biggest thing i had undertaken at the point was a cylinder head swap. and that was 4 years ago.

just follow this, its really basic.

      1. unbolt everything attached to the engine and trans.
      2. pull the engine+trans.
      3. put in the engine+trans.
      4. attach all the wires.

i never labeled anything. i figured wires are cut to the appropriate length, so you just put the wire where its supposed to be and there arent too many options.

if the only thing you've ever changed is the oil, you might want to do more research.

That is pretty much it, but I'll add that it is a good idea to label every connector on the harness and the fuel lines even if the new engine will have a harness with it. That saves head scratching later when you are trying to get the new engine running.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

          WOW fast responses, hehe

well thanks guys, i appreciate the posts. I wish i could have labeled the wires and hoses, though the engine has been out of the car for a while now, and i wasnt the one who pulled it.

but ill see what i can do :)

          thanks

when you are taking one engine out and putting in a pretty much identical one its easy enough. good luck mayne

Check to see if you've swapped the CPS and Cylinder ID connectors. And make sure that the fuel lines aren't swapped.

should be really straight forward. just pay attention to everything, and dont leave anything out. that way you only have to do the job once.
