What DME is my car equipped with?

    My car is a 1988 325i euro touring...its production date was 1988-09-13.

do i have the 153 or the 173?

reason asking is because i am trying to do the stomp test and am not getting a result.

I would also like to figure out of my service light works...

the check panel light does work in coordination with my check panel.

    Thanks

Open it and find out, that's the only way to really know. It's above the glovebox.

Should be a square sticker right on it. It'll be visible without removing the DME. Drop the glovebox, remove the panel above it and look up there with a fleshlight.

On second thought, I'll trade you my cabrio for your touring. Then you KNOW you have a 173 DME.

I think it should be a 173. No results from a stomp test attempt could mean a bad idle or WOT switch in the TPS.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

                Forgive me for the threadjack...

If the CEL isn't (coming) on, would/should a stomp test return anything?

a 1444 code means no faults. Does the CEL light up with the key in the run position?

If the key is turned on but the engine isn't started, yes, I get a solid CEL. When I try the stomp test (full on/off 5 times in about 3 seconds), it just stays solid. My DME is a 153 on an '87 325is.

OP: as penance for jacking your thread, here's a (blurry - sorry) picture of a DME/ECU. The last three digits in the string of numbers under the word "Bosch" is your model number; 153 in this image. You should be able to see the top of it - and that number - by simply removing the trim panel that covers it in the glove box.

So under this scenario should I be getting a 1444 code, or nothing at all?

1444 is the all clear code you should get, if nothing is wrong.

i dont get even a flash of the service light

A 153 DME is Motronic 1.1, which doesn't support the stomp test.
