    323 top to a 325e bottom

i have a 323 top end. can i bolt it directly to my 86 e, when i change my timing belt/water pump. I bought a complete top end seal and gasket set,and torx bolts, spark plug wire set, cap, rotor, fuel filters, motor mounts and a couple other odds and ends.
    1.will it go on
    2.will it work
3.do i need to change the ecu, can i use the 325e until i find a better one.

where can i get the seal for between the master cylinder and the break booster

          yeah you can

but to fully enjoy it you ned to switch to "i" engine management.

the injectors are of a different resistance too (ohm)

thanks andy. the 731 head came off of a 323 i had 3 years ago. it was rebuilt 20k miles ago. it had a automatic in it, i also own a 86 es, the tranny went out 323. the es needs a timing belt....

it'll run like that, yeah. you'll probably be down on power until you swap it to motronic 1.1 or 1.3 though.

I'm doing the same thing right now, but am debating the upgrade to Motronic 1.3.

Hartge did basicly this same setup in some of their early e30's. From what I've read they pretty much just used their own cam in the m20b23 head. I'm sure you could easily replicate the power of these cars with a chip, and possably stronger injectors, along with your Motronic 1.0 although the bennefits of 1.1/1.3 aren't something to scoff at. The next major step would be a differential change. I'm going with a 3.25 LSD, but a 3.46 or even a 3.73 would work just fine, although the 3.73 might be a little too tall without the 1.1/1.3 conversion.

You had an automatic grey market euro 323i? That's pretty rare.

Tear the head down and use dual valve springs if you want to rev over 5500. Without 1.3 motronic and a higher read line you won't be utilizing any of the heads properties, which is just a 200 head with a hot cam and bigger inlets.

the top end was rebuilt, the car was deemed a gross pollutor by the state of california. rare car,but all the after market emission controls were junk, cat, charcal canister, o2,and the impossible to find ecu for the car, the one that was in it was not a bmw, some 80s electonics company in santa barbra it was broke. the interior was f`d up.when the tranny went out (3 years ago)i parked it....broken tree branch(that fell on it)was the last nail in the coffin. to much work...

well the top end rebuild is done, the main problem was the cam shaft was f***ed. so i put the e's cam in the 731 and used the 323s manifold (larger openings). now it smells like its running a little rich in oxygen ! should i put the e's manifold back on? dose any one think this would help, or could it be something else.
also i have a little white smoke, could be from me cleaning the motor and getting water in the down pipe. i let it idle and drove it around a little, to hopefully dry it out (no luck). when I'm driving there is hesitation when i step on the gas.
