What a fuel filter looks like after 190,000 miles

I cut my fuel filter open to see just how gunked up these things get after all the miles. I am fairly certain this is the original filter. The metal shavings were from cutting it open, but the black liquid in the drain pan is not oil, thats the fuel that came out of the filter! I changed the filter as part of my round of maintenance items I performed on the car. It ran fine with this filter in it.

No difference. I had just installed some new injectors and wanted to make sure they stay clean. On top of that, I want to give my fuel pump its best chance of lasting a long time. For anyone that is considering changing it, its incredibly simple. Its about as involved as changing the air filter.

I have a new OEM Mahle fuel filter to install - my car has 207K on it now. Seeing your filters' condition is all the more reason I need to get it changed out soon.

Heres a short and admittedly awful video to see what the acceleration looked like on video (call me a weird ricer) and I wanted to get some video before I do a 5spd swap. After I got home I realized I had my camera set on the worst framerate and resolution settings, not to mention I realized as soon as I got on it that a camera mount would be nice. So click here if you want to see crap quality footage of an old automatic M20 hit 6.9k

Much better benchmark videos will be recorded soon.

190k miles 91 Octane MrkD chip, 17# injectors. nothing else worth mentioning
