    M20B20 valve clearences?

    hey,

I have a 320i 1987 but my bentley has no info on it.
Does anyone know what the valve clearence should be?

I don't have a metric converter on hand, but I adjusted mine to .010 inches while the engine was at ambient.
Me: "I can't wait to redline my car!"
Mark: "Didn't you just break a rocker arm?"
Me: "Yeah, I don't think I've learned my lesson."
    Mark: "You never will."

      hope that helps.

"The Bentley Manual lists the correct valve clearance at 0.30mm (0.012in) with the engine hot, or 0.25mm (0.010in) with the engine cold. In this case, the engine is cold, so I adjust using a 0.25mm feeler gauge."

Noisy valves, when correctly adjusted, will be the result of wear in the valve guides, rockers, cam, or a combination of those.

Note that clicking from the valves when the engine is cold that disappears once the engine reaches operating temperature is normal for mechanical lifters.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Metric and Inches are WAY different. .25 is WAY to large of a gap.

have a haynes manuel in the mail right now. I can confirm this from that when it somes in if anyone needs.

ps. I suggest getting one, it pretty much covers everything about your specific car. and they are only $25 shipped.
