I have an 89 325is in which I just replaced the head. I've put about 150 miles on her since her reassemble. Problems:
1. Runs rough - seems to stumble through acceleration
2. Won't rev past 4000k. At several points while driving her, she wouldn't rev past 3-4k. At one point she didn't even rev past 1500 and I had to pull over. Once I let he rest for a few seconds she was okay.
3. High fuel consumption - I burned nearly a full tank of gas to go 150 miles.
4. Started her up yesterday and had some smoke coming out of the exhaust. After about 15-20 seconds it stopped and normal exhaust was emitted. I also noticed a slight amount of exhaust exiting around the number 6 cylinder exhaust port.
I initially believed that it could be a problem in the ignition system. Results from my check:
Coil:
Primary Resistance: 0.8ohms
Secondary Resistance: 5910 ohms
Wires: (checked from their corresponding contact inside the cap to their end which connects to the spark plug)
6070, 6160, 6030, 5850, 6060, 6120 ohms
Coil wire: 1990 ohms
Rotor button: 1270 ohms
According to the bentley, the coil and the wires may need to be replaced. I doubt that they are worn out enough to cause such a problem with the car though.
Let me know your thoughts and suggestions. Thanks!
