New to E30s... having an issue with doing my timing belt. Help?

Hi, i just bought a bmw 325 with 120k on it, so it's do for a timing belt. I bought a Chilton repair manual for the car, but i am having trouble with one detail; I have a 2 piece hub on my crank shaft, and i can't figure out how i'm supposed to get the second part of the hub off, or which way to spin the hub nut, for that matter.

i did search this, and nothing came up on this particular detail.

If you guys could tell me you this is done, i'd appreicated it

tap it a few times with a rubber mallet. It should fall off.

and you don't need to remove the crank nut. I never do.

It's definitely not held on there with anything other than the 13 mil bolts you've already pulled out. It is one metal surface sitting against another one though, so there's always the chance they may have rusted together.

The pulleys are a little different on the 87 and later, but not in how they attach to the motor. Smacking with a mallet should work. If you have a 3 jaw puller, that will work too. No need to mess with the 22 mil crank nut.

I got it it off; a tap witha mallet, and a tough good twist with a flat head scraw driver did the trick.

                  thanks guys!

And add some anti-sieze to the back side

Where you need the anti-seize is on the centering surfaces. Hit them with 320-400grit crocus cloth to remove rust and then apply a seam or anti-seize.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

                          Another question!

Do i re torque the tensioning bolts, or to i let the spring keep pushing on the belt?

Leave the tensioner bolts loose enough for the tensioner to move until you've rotated the engine through two revolutions to check timing. Once that's done, tighten the bolts.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

they are all right....except no one has told you to drop the chilton, and please invest into a Bentley manual. their pics are awesome and its explanations are easy. can't go wrong.
