Slow to start, sputters when damp

My car takes 2-3 seconds to start instead of firing right up, -every- time, except when it just refuses to start (about once or twice a month). It starts on the second try every time, but again it takes longer than I'm used to. I have had other e30's and an e28 that would fire right up on the first or second crank reliably. This is much slower.

The other symptom occurs when it is damp out, such as after a hard rain, or early in the morning when dew is covering everything and it is foggy out. I live on the east coast at sea level. It does not matter if the car was run 30 minutes prior or hasn't been run for a week. The car will be a little hard to start, like usual, but then sputters when you accelerate. Popping can be heard in the exhaust, and it takes as much as 30 minutes to completely clear up. It is clearly missing, and you can feel the sputtering in the engine.

    DME, ignition coil? A relay?

I have replaced the plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor. The head is rebuilt and the motor has good compression. The car has rebuilt injectors and new o rings. I have checked for intake manifold and vacuum leaks, but it is good.

    Thanks in advance.

have you tested the throttle position sensor?

i doubt its a dme or the ignition coil because it runs fine all other times.

Large engine harness connectors, IIRC there are two, one on the firewall, the other under the manifold. Disconnect, then clean with electrical contact cleaner, then apply dielectric grease. Reassemble. Test.

I will clean the connectors and check the TPS sensor.

I also suspect fuel pressure? But then the moisture would seem to have nothing to do with it. Also it would seem that it would cut out randomnly, not just on startup or damp.

          Thanks for the suggestions.

Reading those posts on the C119 seems to be my problem. I will investigate that.

            Thanks!
